The Carman Country Fair, has worked to promote the expansion and continued interest of the local cattle industry. The fair is a venue to promote the breeding advancement and improvement of cattle in southern Manitoba through competition among the various breeds of cattle. Attention is focused on the outstanding qualities of various breeds and provides a common forum to foster improved urban-rural relations within the community and to educate the public about the cattle industry.
The Carman Fair hosts a well rounded representation of cattle breeds from the surrounding areas. The fair also boasts a very competitive set of Jackpot Classes (yearling heifer, and calendar year calves), the ‘Queen of the Pasture’ commercial cow/calf pen class as well as Junior Futurity Classes for the junior livestock enthusiasts in their breeding program to participate. These include a cow/calf class, yearling heifer class, calendar year bull & heifer calf classes.
4-H cattle classes remain an important focus for the fair. An active group of 4-H clubs continue to hold their annual achievement and successful 4-H Finished Beef Sale at the fair. Local businesses and private individuals continue to show support to these young cattle producers by purchasing the finished steer projects at the Annual 4-H Beef Auction, held on the Friday of the fair.
